One of the best places we found to fly to, is the Bryce canyon, Zion National park area. There are a number of airports in the area from rather short unimproved strips to 8000' paved regional airports. ( most of the airports have a high elevation 6 to 8 thousand feet, can be tough in the summertime) We flew into Cedar City and picked up our rental car, and proceeded from there. We stayed at the Zion River Resort which is about a 30 min drive from Cedar City airport and about 10 miles from the South entrance of Zion National Park. Their hospitality was fantastic and they have all the amenities you would expect from a deluxe campground resort. The area is truly awesome. Even our 14 year old had a great time. >From Sacramento to Cedar City flight time was about 2 hrs and 45min or so. (Mooney) Figure going early to miss the turbulence over the Sierra's, especially on the way home. And figure flight planning for 10,000-11,000 ft. We were there for three days and had plenty of time to see all the sights.
